"Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4 NKJV)
In the Greek the word for 'word' here is rhema meaning the now, spoken or uttered word of God. Put another way, the Lord is saying just as we need bread or food to sustain our natural bodies to live, we need to know His voice to sustain and grow our spirit man. This is a vital part of spiritual life - to know His voice. Just as we spend time in purchasing, preparing and eating natural foods, so should we go after, seek out and take time to listen to the still, small voice of God. We indeed are His sheep who are to know Him, His voice and follow Him (John 10:27).
Take the time day by day to listen to the voice of your Shepherd.
