Devotional | Cherishing the Details

For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose (Philippians 2:13)

Step by step He whispers into your heart. You place one foot in front of the other and wonder if the little step forward really made much of a difference. Our lives are filled with steps. Some steps appear small while others appear almost more like a leap. I am learning that in the process of both big and small God does not measure our steps as we may perceive them. He is satisfied and pleased with even the small step that seems insignificant. It is the gaze of our heart that He focuses upon, as we agree to take a step into the unknown, and watch with faith filled eyes for what is now ahead. With every step we are sowing into a fruitful harvest. Every moment holds meaning, value and purpose for the greater picture the Artist is painting. The small details make the painting complete and whole.

May we take the time to ask our heart the question, 'what step am I to take?' What is the nudge in our heart that we may even have been ignoring? There is purpose and great significance in that one moment of moving forward because “it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” We are held in the middle of the steps. We are being fashioned and formed to fulfill the good purpose and plans He has dreamt of for our life.

Our Shepard leads us to move forward so that we may receive the greater blessing. It’s from glory to glory and strength to strength that we, as His children, are to live. He is not in a hurry to nudge us along to then leave us confused. Rather, He is fully present in the process. Our hearts’ are enlarged as we trust. The fear that once held us back has now fallen away. There is beauty in the small steps because He is a Father who delights in the details. He cherishes our willingness and simply longs to be a part of the journey. To reveal how involved He has been from the very start.

As we chose to take that step forward, may we hold close to our heart His words which renew our minds. Let’s take our step of faith from a place of rest as we allow our hearts to be strengthen by the immeasurable and unexplainable love of the Father.
