Lisa Ninaber is a wife, a proud grandma and a mother to four grown children. The ministry of Catch The Fire has...
“But I will rescue you on that day, declares the Lord; you will not be given into the hands of those you fear. I will save you; you will not fall by the sword but will escape with your life, because you trust in me, declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 39:17 -18 NIV).
God rescues those who trust in Him. We read this continually in the Word, and all throughout the lives of His servants. In the midst of the battle, when the children of God looked to Him, protection and direction was theirs as He would defeat the enemy before them.
God wants to be our protector, deliverer, stronghold and refuge. When we look to Him for this, He promises to always come through. This is not to say, we will never go through struggles. We will, just as Jesus states, "In this world, you will have trouble." (John 16:33 NIV) That is a fact, for both saint and sinner alike. But in those dark times of life, God will never forsake those who trust in Him. He has promised to be with us, even till the end of the age.
Psalm 37:24 states, "Though the [righteous] may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds them with His hand." (NIV) Struggles will come, but we can remain confident. When we put our trust in Him, our struggles will not last forever, nor will we be defeated. In the end, we will receive the victory and joy,
Another example from the Word is found in Psalms 23, which says "Not to fear even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, for He is with us."(NIV). He knows the beginning and the end. As Misty Edwards sings, “He knows where this is heading.” Therefore, who better to put our trust in, because our God is with us and what a mighty God He is.
Psalm 46:1-3 declares, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” (NIV) I do not know about you, but I would be terrified in the scenario mentioned above. However, God is inviting us not to fear. Even in the midst of an extreme situation, we can believe that He knows what we may not currently see, or understand. Perhaps, it is because He knows that in our weakness we discover a new depth of His presence, as we experience His comforting arms holding us.
I have known people who have gone through difficult circumstances, they speak of tangibly feeling the presence of God, as if He were actually hugging them. Or, at other times, God sent an angel, which could be seen with natural eyes, to bring comfort and protection.
When we look to our Father, we can trust that He will come through for us. He will not forsake us even in our weakness. Do you believe His promise, and are you trusting in Him?
