Devotional | His Purposes

“I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” (Psalm 57:2 ESV)

To me this is a comforting verse; to know and be assured that God will fulfill His purpose for me. Yes, God created us with a purpose.

Psalm 139:16 says, “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (NIV)

God knows everything about us—where we’ve been, where we are, and where we need to be. It is so easy to get discouraged or berate ourselves when we know we’ve made a wrong decision or walked down a path that seems to take us further away from God’s purpose for our life. We’ve all been there. We’ve all made bad decisions, but thankfully, it doesn’t end there. God is more than able to get us back on the correct path. And He is more than able to use those things for good in our lives. That is so comforting to know.

We can be assured because God wants us to walk into our purpose and destiny even more than we want to walk into those things. We strive for that. All of us long to know God’s plan for our lives. For most of us, that is our primary question, “God, what is Your will for my life?” I believe, as we trust in Him, He will bring those things to pass.

"God is interested, not only in the destination, but also in the journey."

The key is to put our life in His hands and trust Him to lead us step-by-step, day-by-day. Most of us will never figure it out all at once. God’s way is to lead us gradually, one step at a time, in order to prepare us for those things. God is interested, not only in the destination, but also in the journey. I am 49 and I am still not 100% sure of God’s purposes for my life. This is not to discourage you though. God uses us, teaches us and prepares us during the process, the journey of getting from here to there. I see Him right now leading me into things that I didn’t even know I was destined for, and it’s exciting!

Raising my children was part of the training and a major part of my destiny. I was “destined” to raise four godly children, and it has been such a privilege to be their mother. I am so thankful for everything I’ve learned in this time and for God entrusting me with such incredible children.

I know that God still has great things for me and I am excited to walk into those purposes, when the time is right. I know that God is continually preparing me for whatever is ahead. And I know that when I get off the path, or make a wrong turn, He will do whatever needs to be done to get me back on the right way. I don’t know exactly what is ahead, but I am trusting God to lead me and my family at the proper time. I am trusting in Him to show us the right path and to open the doors before us. I am trusting in Him to bring us along, step-by-step, day-by-day into His call for our lives.

I believe those purposes on this earth will never end until that moment when we see Him face to face. And when we get to heaven, we have even greater purpose awaiting us.

Do you trust Him to lead you moment by moment? Are you confident that He will perform His purposes for you? Are you allowing Him to lead you day-by day?
