"But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content." (Psalm 131:2 NIV)
We were on a mission trip and the ministry was going very well but there was a relationship issue that had cropped up and it was causing me a lot of uncertainty and anxiety. One evening as I was laying on the bed, listening to a Ruth Fazal soaking CD, her song containing these lyrics from Psalm 131 came on. The words rode the sound waves straight into my heart as the Holy Spirit began to speak and counsel me through them.
"David had learned the secret of casting his cares on the Lord."
This is a psalm of David, a man after God's own heart. As the great king of the nation of Israel he has many complex issues to deal with on a regular basis. But because he knew the heart of God, and his position as a son, David had learned the secret of casting his cares on the Lord.
Do you want to be known as a person after God's own heart? Then like David, in the midst of uncertainty and anxiety, choose to snuggle up and lean upon the breast of your nurturing God who loves you and watches over you every moment of every day. You are his favored child and his eyes never leave you.
