“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.” (Psalm 37:23-24 NIV)
At times I have found myself in circumstances where doubt attempts to bite at my ear. I question my decisions and fear if I have made the right choice. It can be a challenge for me not to allow doubt or fear to rule my life. In other words, for doubt and fear to control where I go and what I decide to do.
One morning during my devotional time, I was reading through the gospels and noticed the same sentence was highlighted to me in various verses. The sentence was, “Take courage, and do not be afraid.” I paused and thought to myself, “How often have I allowed myself to sink into fear, to not step out into what is being revealed to my heart because I listen to the fear and doubt, rather than the heart of my Father whose perfect love casts out all fear?”
God is the one who sustains us, and we can trust that He is unchanging. If God is unchanging then we do not need to fear the unknown, and with courage we can face our enemies. Our enemies, I believe can be perhaps ungodly beliefs, or any other roadblocks that attempt to hold us down from stepping into our inheritance.
Psalm 37:23-24 reveals to us that God has made firm our steps. Our Father has already prepared for us where we will step foot, and therefore our foundation will not be shaken. He has gone before you and will preserve His children. As we delight in God through developing and cultivating intimacy with Him, we will discover that God wants only what is best for us. He does not desire trouble, or harm to come our way. As we choose to step out in faith, and when we take the risk, even in our weakness and uncertainty; God will care for us as He “upholds [us] with His hand.”
To walk in our inheritance means to trust in who God says He is and who we are, His children. We are cared for by our Father who has written in heaven every one of our desires. What we choose to believe, we will receive. God has been revealing to my heart that it is my inheritance to receive what I desire, and it is through believing that we will be sustained and given what we hope for, that we will receive our desires.
This week why not seek after His heart, and get to know more of who He is, by learning about His character and nature? Challenge yourself to not give into doubt, rather take a risk in knowing that our courage is developed as we depend on His strength.
