"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." (Hebrews 12:1-3 NIV)
Sometimes the Bible will request us to do something that seems easier said than done, like shedding off that which hinders and tangles us. Often, a challenging instruction is followed with a solution so that we can implement it. Life does not happen without occasional burdens and entanglements. I often find myself tangled in a lie or ungodly belief that stops me from walking in my kingdom destiny and authority. When I feel burdened and tangled I try to figure out what God wants me to do to get out of it, when really the answer is so simple. The word says that we are surrounded by many witnesses from Hebrews 11 (sometimes referred to as the "Hall of Faith"). If those in the "Hall of Faith" do not motivate you to shed off what hinders, then Hebrews 12 verse 2 should. If you want an instant way to shed off what hinders and tangles then set your eyes on Jesus. On those days when I think that my actions are writing this story of faith, I am tempted to take on burdens. It is at those times I most need to remind myself that Jesus is the author and the perfecter of my faith. When I fix my eyes on him everything in my life that is not of him cannot help but fall off in his glorious presence. Do not ask what you can do for God so that he will free you, but rather ask, "what has my God already done for me so that I can walk in freedom unburdened and untangled?"
Next time you feel burdened and tangled look upon Jesus; he is writing your story and he has already made it victorious!
