Review | Freshwind 2013

The annual Freshwind youth conference held at Catch The Fire Toronto drew in eager hearts hungry to receive and discover more of God. The church was filled with anticipation as both young and old continually joined together for various sessions that were held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Freshwind youth conference is traditionally held every Easter weekend and never fails to bring transformation within young hearts.

“Youth hurried to the front of the auditorium and began to pour out their hearts, crying out to God for His desires to be revealed.”

“Time to Stand Out” was the overall theme of the weekend and I believe it fitted well with the topics both guest speakers addressed during the seminars. Heidi Baker and Faytene Grasseschi spoke on destiny and stepping out into the calling that God has specifically crafted for us to fulfill. I was able to witness the excitement rush throughout the room as inspiration began to stem on the inside of people’s spirits on the first night of the conference. Baker awakened a new passion within my own heart as well, and reminded the congregation to first fall in love with the One who is worthy, Jesus. While she spoke, it was clear that her heart was aligned with the Father’s. Youth hurried to the front of the auditorium and began to pour out their hearts, crying out to God for His desires to be revealed. Dreams were awakened and a unity was formed throughout the room as Heidi began to encourage the people to pray for each other’s dreams. while various individuals publicly shared their dreams, a passion for His kingdom to be advanced was kindled within their hearts.

“Holy Spirit moved throughout the room and awakened a greater hunger for His kingdom.”

Faytene Grasseschi shared her heart with the youth on Friday evening and expressed the importance of cultivating a lifestyle of wholeheartedness and holiness. She spoke as a big sister would, suggesting for the youth to lay aside the things of this world, to seek first His kingdom and to see the desires of their hearts fulfilled. The passion which she naturally carried seeped through her and drew the youth to thirst for a deeper hunger. Holy Spirit moved throughout the room and awakened a greater hunger for His kingdom. Grasseschi allowed room for Holy Spirit to freely touch hearts in drawing the youth closer to the Father. The flame was fanned within people’s spirits as they began to surrender their lives to Jesus. Both sweaty and passionate teenagers left the church Friday evening after an hour of fire tunnels, where the ministry team imparts and blesses the youth who walk through the “tunnel” with the Holy Spirit who comes alive within them.

“You left the building satisfied and eager for the next evening session.”

The conference included morning and evening sessions, with workshops in the afternoons. Heidi Baker spoke on Friday morning while John Bootsma,Pastor at Catch The Fire Airport Campus, shared on Saturday. The workshops gave the youth practical tools and guided steps in reaching their dreams and living a wholehearted lifestyle. The School of Ministry  building was kept alive by hosting Fresh Rock Cafe, a place for people to relax, socialize and listen to live music. The SoM students were able to draw in the youth with the various acts that they had prepared for the weekend. The performances included Sky Terminal, former School of Ministry students, and karaoke with a panel of judges. I enjoyed listening to the performances while munching on a crêpe and drinking an Oreo milkshake that were on sale. People left the building satisfied and eager for the next session. Throughout the weekend, the youth eagerly awaited for worship to begin. Jeremy Riddle, William Matthews and the Freshwind band welcomed Holy Spirit to freely move throughout the room while inviting hearts to seek first His face.

“His presence had softened hearts, and a willingness to receive more of God was awakened.”

Freshwind 2013 brought transformation to a hungry and passionate generation. I was able to see a desire to know His heart itch on the inside of many. John Arnott brought the conference to a close after speaking on the power of God’s manifested presence. The evening ended with prayers lines; Arnott and the ministry team were then able to invite Holy Spirit to have His way in the hearts of those receiving prayer. I personally witnessed God move and tangibly touch hearts while praying for individuals. His presence had softened hearts, and a willingness to receive more of God was awakened. Youth left the church Saturday evening revived as new creations, ready to transform their community, their country, and the world.
